Sofie
SOFIE - S istema Co struttivo Fie mme (Fiemme Construction System) – is a research project on sustainable building conducted by IVALSA (the Italian Trees and Timber Institute) and the National Research Council with the support of the Autonomous Province of Trento.
SOFIE’s aim is to define the performance and potential of a system for the construction of buidings several storeys high, using a load-bearing structure in Trentino timber of certified quality and with a high level of mechanical performance and low energy consumption, excellent fire and earthquake safety levels, acoustic comfort and durability: the X-LAM system (laminar solid timber panels in crossed layers). The panels are made entirely of timber from the forests of the Fiemme Valley and other Trentino valleys.
On 11th December 2008 the SOFIE Veritas Consortium Company was established, with Trentino Sviluppo as a minority shareholder (49.76% of capital). The company’s objective is to enable the “SOFIE” system” to be actually used by the building industry for building purposes, together with its associated intellectual property, including patents, trademarks and know-how. The consortium company also monitors compliance with the SOFIE system technical and scientific specifications and coordinates training and actions aimed at promoting, exploiting and spreading the use of the “system” both nation-wide and internationally.
